The EU and Azerbaijan will study a rail link to Nakhchivan to boost trade and connectivity.
The EU and Azerbaijan have agreed to conduct a feasibility study for a railway linking Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan exclave, part of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor aimed at connecting Europe and Central Asia with a 15-day transit target.
The project, supported by the EBRD and EU initiatives, seeks to boost regional connectivity, diversify trade routes, create jobs, and promote economic growth, especially in rural areas.
Talks also included potential inclusion of the Zangezur corridor in the EU’s TEN-T network.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and Austria discussed expanding transport cooperation, including rail, road bridges, and direct flights, as trade between them rose 37.6% in 2025.
