Actor Ranveer Singh is facing legal action in Bengaluru after allegedly mocking a sacred Daiva ritual from Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara during the 2025 International Film Festival of India closing ceremony.
An FIR was filed by advocate Prashanth Methal, accusing Singh of disrespecting Hindu religious sentiments by imitating a possession scene and referring to the revered Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost.” The case, registered under Sections 196, 299, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, stems from a court directive and has been referred to the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The next hearing is set for April 8, 2026.
