A task force has held its first meeting to address the closure of the Fife Ethylene Plant at Mossmorran, set to shut down next month and threaten over 400 jobs. ExxonMobil cited the plant’s economic unviability and inability to sell it as reasons for the decision. In response, the Scottish government has allocated £9 million over three years in its draft budget to support affected workers and communities. The task force, including the UK Government, Fife Council, unions, and local partners, aims to coordinate assistance, building on existing efforts like the Pace initiative, which provides skills and job support.
