A storm-triggered sinkhole closed a Devon rail line temporarily, halting trains and requiring emergency repairs.
A sinkhole measuring 8 meters by 3.5 meters opened near the railway between Dawlish and Teignmouth in Devon after Storm Ingrid, leading to a temporary closure of the line between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot from 7pm Wednesday to 7am Thursday.
Emergency repairs will include filling the crater with 200 tonnes of material overnight.
Train services between London and Exeter St Davids, and Newton Abbot and Penzance, will continue, but replacement buses will run between key stations.
The Night Riviera Sleeper service will be suspended Wednesday evening.
A nearby footpath will also close for safety and reopen early next week.
