Norway selects South Korea’s Chunmoo artillery over U.S. HIMARS for $2B Arctic defense boost.
Norway’s parliament has approved a $2 billion plan to buy long-range artillery systems from South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace, selecting the Chunmoo system over U.S. rival HIMARS due to its 500 km range, technical compliance, and faster delivery.
The purchase, part of broader NATO efforts to strengthen Arctic defense, aims to deter Russia amid ongoing security concerns.
The deal includes 16 launch systems and undisclosed rockets, with production supported by a Polish joint venture.
While some lawmakers pushed for a European alternative, officials deemed it too slow and expensive.
The defense ministry has not yet confirmed the contract.
