Judith Collins to leave Parliament in 2026 for Law Commission presidency.
Longtime New Zealand MP and former National Party leader Judith Collins has declared that she will leave parliament in the middle of 2026 to take a position as president of the Law Commission, an independent organization in charge of legal reform. The appointment was confirmed by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who praised her decades of service in a variety of ministerial positions, including defense minister and attorney general. Collins, who was first elected in 2002, will continue to serve as an MP until her new position takes effect; a by-election will not be triggered by her departure. Her move from political leadership to a high-level legal and policy advisory role reflects her long history of public service and her broad legal background.
