India and EU finalize trade deal cutting tariffs on European alcohol, boosting access and saving €4B annually.
India and the European Union have finalized an 18-year trade negotiation, agreeing to slash import tariffs on European wines, spirits, and beer, with wine duties dropping from 150% to 20% for premium varieties and 30% for mid-range, while spirits tariffs will fall to 40%.
The deal, expected to be signed in 2026 and effective in 2027, will boost access to affordable European alcoholic beverages in India, expand consumer choice, and support growth in tourism and hospitality.
In return, Indian wines and spirits will gain duty-free access to the EU, and India will receive duty-free access to $100 million worth of EU table grapes annually.
The agreement covers nearly 97% of European exports to India, creating a free trade zone for 2 billion people and saving up to €4 billion in annual duties.
