Google rolls out new Android theft protections, including AI-powered theft detection, remote locking, and stronger screen security.
Increased screen lock security, extended lockout times following unsuccessful attempts, and an expanded Identity Check that requires biometric verification for sensitive actions outside of trusted locations are just a few of the new theft protection features Google has introduced for Android devices. With longer lockout times and safeguards against unintentional lockouts, a new Failed Authentication Lock feature now has a dedicated setting toggle. In Brazil, new devices come with Remote Lock enabled by default, which enables safe remote locking via a web browser with optional security questions, and Theft Detection Lock, which uses on-device AI to detect snatch-and-run thefts. These updates, which are being released worldwide, are intended to lessen the incentives for theft and render stolen phones unusable.
