China approves first import of Nvidia H200 AI chips for major internet firms amid rising AI demand.

According to sources, China has authorized the import of its first batch of Nvidia's H200 AI chips, with hundreds of thousands cleared for three significant internet companies. The action, which was revealed during CEO Jensen Huang's visit, represents a change in Beijing's strategy in response to significant demand from Chinese companies building AI infrastructure. In spite of U.S. China had previously prohibited shipments prior to export approval. With orders exceeding two million units, the H200, which offers six times the performance of previous models, is in great demand. Details are still unknown, but Beijing may demand that importers purchase domestic chips.
