Canada’s population growth is slowing, with projections of 57.4 million by 2075 due to low immigration and fertility rates.
Statistics Canada projects Canada’s population could reach 57.4 million by 2075 under a medium-growth scenario, down from a previous estimate of 59.3 million, due to lower immigration, persistently low fertility rates, and uncertain pandemic-related impacts on life expectancy.
The agency also revised its low-growth and high-growth projections to 44 million and 75.8 million, respectively.
Population aging is expected, with those over 65 making up between 22.6% and 32.5% of the population by 2075, and the number of Canadians aged 85 and over projected to grow from 952,000 in 2025 to between 3.3 million and 4.2 million.
Alberta is expected to surpass British Columbia in population size.
