flag British Columbia approved the Eskay Creek mine restart with Indigenous consent and environmental safeguards, pending federal review.

After years of review, the Eskay Creek gold and silver mine in Tahltan territory has received an environmental assessment certificate from British Columbia, a significant step toward its restart. A revenue-sharing arrangement and 38 legally binding requirements to safeguard the environment and Indigenous rights are part of the consent-based process that led to the approval with the Tahltan Nation. Construction could start by 2036, but federal approval is still pending. One of eighteen projects in British Columbia that have been expedited, the project has the potential to produce substantial provincial revenue and hundreds of jobs.
