A UK man stole £28,000 from his dementia-stricken mother over 18 months, using it for personal expenses and care costs, and was given a suspended sentence.
Martyn Walker, a 55-year-old former soldier from Norfolk, has been convicted of stealing over £28,000 from his 83-year-old mother, who has dementia and lived in a care home.
Between January 2023 and July 2024, Walker, who managed her finances, diverted the money to buy Lego, fuel, household bills, and care home fees.
He was sentenced to an 18-month suspended prison term, 180 hours of unpaid work, and rehabilitation.
The theft went undetected for over a year, raising concerns about financial oversight for vulnerable adults.
