On Republic Day 2026, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated Punjab remains India’s only state without a capital, reaffirming his government’s push to make Chandigarh its official capital.
He criticized the central government’s proposed Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2025, which would increase central control over Chandigarh, calling it a threat to Punjab’s rights.
