Karnataka police arrested suspended Congress leader Rajeev Gowda in Kerala on January 25, 2026, after he fled following a threatening phone call to Sidlaghatta City Municipal Commissioner Amruta Gowda.
The call, recorded and widely shared, allegedly included threats to burn down the CMC office and abusive language after a banner featuring Gowda was removed.
Police tracked him via GPS from his MG Hector, which he abandoned near Mangaluru Junction, and apprehended him after a tip-off.
The Karnataka High Court had previously rejected his plea to quash the FIR, and the Congress party suspended him.
He is being returned to custody for further action.
