Three New Zealand retail crime advisors resigned over conflicts, halting progress on key crime-reduction proposals.
Three members of New Zealand’s Ministerial Advisory Group on retail crime have resigned, leaving only chair Sunny Kaushal and retailer Ash Parmar.
Retail NZ CEO Carolyn Young cited an "unpleasant environment" and personal conflicts with Kaushal as reasons for her departure, joining two others who stepped down amid internal tensions.
The group, formed in 2024 to tackle retail crime costing $2.7 billion annually, has proposed measures like expanded citizens’ arrests and stronger trespass laws, but its recommendations remain unpublished.
Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said departures were due to external commitments, while Kaushal maintained the group’s work continues despite challenges.
