South Africa's SIU investigates alleged corruption in water project contracts in uMzinyathi from 2020 to 2025.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has launched a probe into alleged maladministration at South Africa’s uMzinyathi District Municipality, covering contracts and payments from March 2020 to November 2025.
Authorized by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the investigation focuses on procurement for water projects, including a generator purchase and tank installations at the Vants Drift Water Treatment Plant, amid concerns over inflated costs and uncompleted work.
The probe will assess fairness, transparency, and compliance with laws and financial guidelines.
Any criminal evidence will be referred to the National Prosecuting Authority, and the SIU may pursue civil action to recover lost funds.
