Paul Hennessy of Bathurst receives Australia’s Medal of the Order of Australia for 50+ years of community service.
Paul Hennessy, a Bathurst resident, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2026 Australia Day honours for over 50 years of community service.
He began volunteering with the Scouts at age eight in 1971, served as a leader, organized fundraisers, and founded the SOCKS program in 2024 to provide second-hand uniforms to children in need.
He has also been a justice of the peace since 1987 and volunteered with the Bathurst RSL, All Saints Cathedral, and Operation Digger, which delivers Christmas packs to Defence Force members.
Hennessy has received multiple awards, including the Silver Cross for Bravery and the Silver Kangaroo, and views the OAM as a personal tribute to his lifelong commitment to his community and country.
