Malaysia launches green/red lane system at KLIA Terminal 1 to speed up customs for travelers.
Malaysia has launched a risk-based green and red lane system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Terminal 1 on January 26, 2026, to reduce passenger congestion and streamline customs clearance.
The system, modeled after those in Singapore and Dubai, uses risk assessments and flight data to direct travelers: those with nothing to declare use green lanes for faster passage, while higher-risk passengers go to red lanes for inspection.
Previously, all arrivals queued at a single lane, adding 15 to 20 minutes to processing times.
The change, developed through inter-agency collaboration since October 2025, will undergo a one-month trial before potential expansion to other terminals and airports.
The initiative aims to improve efficiency and passenger experience amid rising international tourism.
