Indonesia has received its first three Rafale fighter jets from France, marking the start of an $8 billion defense deal for up to 42 aircraft, with three more expected in 2026.
The jets, built by Dassault Aviation, are now operational at Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base in Sumatra.
The acquisition is part of Indonesia’s broader military modernization under President Prabowo Subianto, which includes plans for French frigates and submarines, as well as a contract for 48 Turkish KAAN fifth-generation fighters.
Indonesia is also exploring deals with Pakistan for combat jets and drones, and evaluating options like China’s J-10 and U.S. F-15EX jets.
