India launched a hypersonic missile on Republic Day, showcasing its new defense capabilities.
On India’s 77th Republic Day, January 26, 2026, the country unveiled the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LR-AShM), a hypersonic glide vehicle capable of speeds up to Mach 10 and a range of 1,500 km, marking India’s entry into an elite group of nations with hypersonic technology.
Developed by DRDO, the missile uses a two-stage solid propulsion system and follows a low-altitude, maneuverable trajectory to evade radar detection.
The parade on Kartavya Path also showcased other indigenous defense systems, including the Arjun and T-90 Bhishma tanks, BrahMos and Akash missile systems, advanced artillery, unmanned drones, and aerial platforms, reflecting India’s growing military self-reliance.
