Foil balloons, not winter storm, caused power outage for nearly 5,000 in west Louisville.
A power outage affecting nearly 5,000 customers in west Louisville on Saturday evening was caused by foil balloons that touched power lines, not the winter storm, according to LG&E.
The utility said the balloons, released in a neighborhood, disrupted power for about an hour and a half.
Most customers had electricity restored by 9:30 p.m.
The storm brought heavy snow, sleet, and ice to the region, but LG&E confirmed the outage was unrelated to weather conditions.
The company warned that foil balloons can cause outages, fires, and injuries if they contact power lines.
