The World Bank has approved a Rs 5,700 crore loan to support Haryana’s 'Jal Sanrakshit Haryana' project, with funds disbursed from 2026 to 2032.
The project will restore 678 unrepaired canals and 1,961 canal minors, expand micro-irrigation to 70,000 acres, address waterlogging on 200,000 acres, construct 80 new water bodies, and reuse treated wastewater to irrigate 28,000 acres.
It aims to fully line and modernize the state’s canal network for 25 years, expand irrigation to an additional 200,000 acres, and improve water security by reducing agricultural reliance on freshwater for drinking.
