According to the Syrian Defense Ministry, Syria has extended its ceasefire with the Kurdish-led SDF, which includes the YPG, by 15 days, beginning on January 24, 2026. The extension is intended to assist a U.S.-led effort to transfer detainees to Iraq and evacuate them from YPG-run prisons. Although the new extension offers short-term stability, no long-term renewal has been confirmed. The previous four-day truce ended earlier that week.
