South Carolina has authorized one-time early refills for Schedule III-V prescriptions due through January 30, 2026, to help residents prepare for an impending winter storm expected to cause power outages and travel disruptions. The emergency measure, approved by the Department of Public Health under state code and Executive Order No. 2026-02, allows pharmacies to refill valid prescriptions early to reduce the need for hazardous travel. Pharmacies must document each refill with the date, time, reason, and pharmacist’s signature and retain original prescriptions. The action is temporary and intended to ensure continued access to critical medications during the storm.
