On January 24, 2026, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat stated India’s civilization dates back around 200,000 years, emphasizing enduring national unity despite cultural evolution.
He said Sanatan Dharma, rooted in ancient forest and agricultural life, predates the term "Hindu" and that tribal communities, or Adivasis, are foundational to India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Bhagwat affirmed that tribal traditions, including worship and spiritual beliefs, have existed for millennia and remain vital, rejecting claims that tribal societies lack religion.
The remarks were made during the Janjati Samvad Karyakram in Ranchi, where he also stressed tribal stewardship of land and the importance of their consent in national development.
