A 33-year-old college professor, Alok Kumar Singh, was fatally stabbed on a Mumbai local train at Malad station on January 24, 2026, during a minor argument over alighting. The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on platform 1 as Singh, who taught mathematics and statistics at NM College, was exiting the Borivali-bound train. A 27-year-old daily-wage labourer, Omkar Eknath Shinde, was arrested within 12 hours, identified through CCTV footage showing him fleeing across a foot overbridge. Singh was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead. Police have booked Shinde under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigations continue.
