American runner Josh Hoey set a new indoor 800-meter world record with a time of 1:42.50 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, breaking Wilson Kipketer’s 29-year-old mark of 1:42.67.
The 26-year-old from Pennsylvania, paced by his brother, won by two seconds over Poland’s Filip Ostrowski.
This performance capped a standout season that included American and world indoor titles, a world best in the 600m, and a victory in the Kalakaua Merrie Mile.
Hoey, now self-coached, plans to compete in the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games in February.
