India honored 982 personnel with medals on Republic Day 2026, including 125 gallantry awards, with top honors going to Jammu and Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism, and northeast regions.

On Republic Day 2026, India honored 982 police, fire, home guard, civil defence, and correctional services personnel with gallantry and service medals. The Union Home Ministry awarded 125 gallantry medals, with 45 to personnel from Jammu and Kashmir, 35 from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, and five from the northeast. Jammu and Kashmir Police received the most gallantry awards (33), followed by Maharashtra (31), Uttar Pradesh (18), and Delhi (14). The CRPF was the only Central Armed Police Force to receive gallantry citations, with 12 medals. Additionally, 101 received President’s Medals for Distinguished Service and 756 were awarded Medals for Meritorious Service for exceptional dedication and bravery in service.
