India to buy 337,000 tonnes of tur at MSP to support farmers.
The Indian government has approved the procurement of 337,000 metric tonnes of tur (pigeon pea) in Maharashtra under the Price Support Scheme at the Minimum Support Price, costing approximately Rs 2,696 crore.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the move during a meeting with state and central officials, emphasizing direct procurement from farmers to reduce middlemen and ensure benefits reach genuine cultivators.
Officials were directed to use modern technology for transparent farmer registration, expand procurement centers as needed, and coordinate closely between NAFED, NCCF, and state authorities.
