Heavy rains caused a landslide in West Java, killing at least 11 and leaving 79 missing.
Heavy rains on Saturday caused a deadly landslide in Pasir Langu village, West Java, which buried about 34 homes under mud and debris and left at least 11 people dead and 79 missing. Because of the unstable, wet terrain that prevents heavy machinery, rescuers—including drones, K-9 units, and ground teams—are working by hand. There have been about 230 residents evacuated to shelters. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and other Indonesian officials stressed the necessity of better land use in high-risk areas because floods and landslides frequently occur in mountainous areas during the October to April rainy season.
