HD Kumaraswamy leads protests against Karnataka’s plan to acquire 9,000 acres for an AI city, citing low compensation and corruption.
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy is leading protests against the Karnataka government’s plan to acquire 9,000 acres of agricultural land in Bidadi for an AI city, vowing to block any land seizure.
He accused the government of offering low compensation—around Rs 2 crore per acre—compared to higher penalties for land violations, and criticized alleged corruption and benami land deals.
Kumaraswamy, who previously approved similar projects, said farmers’ livelihoods and public opinion must be respected, contrasting the current plan with past projects scrapped due to farmer opposition.
Deputy CM D K Shivakumar countered, asserting the project was initiated under his leadership and challenged Kumaraswamy to a public debate, highlighting growing tensions over land use and development in Karnataka.
