Grant Sharpe faces up to 8 years in prison for attacking a 90-year-old man in a 2024 home invasion.
Grant Sharpe, 24, of Sudbury, will learn on March 4, 2026, whether he will serve an eight-year prison sentence for a September 2024 attack on 90-year-old Aurel Baril, who suffered a broken neck, brain swelling, and loss of consciousness.
The assault, described as a deliberate home invasion, led to Sharpe pleading guilty to aggravated assault and forcible entry.
His defense claims he was suffering from psychosis due to amphetamine use and schizophrenia, arguing he was not criminally responsible, citing unmet mental health treatment recommendations from July 2024.
The Crown seeks an eight-year sentence, while the defense requests three to six years and a four-month credit for harsh jail conditions, which the Crown opposes.
Both sides agree on a 1.5-to-1 credit for 440 days in custody.
Sentencing was delayed due to the judge’s illness.
