Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in India’s 2026 Republic Day honours for her distinguished service during Operation Sindoor in 2025.
The award, approved by President Droupadi Murmu, recognizes her leadership and clear communication during high-pressure media briefings alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
She is one of 70 armed forces personnel honored, including six posthumous awards, as part of a broader list of 301 military decorations and 98 Mention-in-Despatches.
Qureshi, a trailblazing officer, made history as the first woman to lead an Indian Army contingent in a multinational exercise and has served in major operations and UN peacekeeping missions.
