Wisconsin approves 20-year nuclear tax credits, designating it a low-carbon energy source.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed a bipartisan bill offering 20 years of tax credits for new nuclear power plants, starting at $10,000 annually and declining by $1,000 each year.
The legislation, which designates nuclear energy as a low-carbon priority alongside wind and solar, allows the Public Service Commission to set tariffs to protect residential customers from costs linked to serving large energy users like data centers.
It passed 86-11, with supporters citing energy independence, job creation, and rising data center demand, while opponents raised concerns over construction costs and potential ratepayer burdens.
The bill now moves to the Senate.
