34 Western Hemisphere nations to hold first-ever defense chiefs meeting Feb. 11 to boost security cooperation amid U.S. military actions in the region.
Top military leaders from 34 Western Hemisphere nations will meet on February 11 for the first-ever Western Hemisphere Chiefs of Defense Conference, hosted by U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine.
The gathering aims to enhance regional cooperation on security challenges, including drug trafficking and transnational threats, amid increased U.S. military activity in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
This includes over 35 air strikes since September targeting cartel vessels, resulting in more than 120 deaths, and a recent strike on January 23 that killed two and left one survivor.
The event follows the U.S.-backed removal of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro in January, marking the most significant U.S. intervention in Latin America since 1989.
