The U.S. delivered its largest self-propelled hopper dredger, the Frederick Paup, to support coastal projects and boost dredged material reuse.
Seatrium has delivered the Frederick Paup, the largest self-propelled hopper dredger built in the U.S., to Manson Construction.
Measuring 420 feet with over 15,000 cubic yards of capacity, the Jones Act-compliant vessel features advanced propulsion, dynamic positioning, and Tier 4 diesel-electric engines for improved efficiency and lower emissions.
It will support U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in Mobile, Alabama, aiding navigation, beach nourishment, and coastal restoration.
The delivery advances the Corps’ goal of 70% beneficial reuse of dredged material by 2030.
Meanwhile, Eastern Shipbuilding Group began construction on a new medium-class hopper dredger, the Donnelly, to replace the aging Dredge McFARLAND in the Corps’ Ready Reserve Fleet.
