United Way Sarnia-Lambton has approved funding for 27 local programs across 16 agencies in 2026, despite falling $42,600 short of its $1.5 million 2025 goal.
Savings and strong investment returns helped cover the gap, enabling support for critical services like food security, housing, mental health, addiction recovery, seniors in poverty, and youth development.
Some programs received increased funding, while one received less and is seeking alternative support.
The John Howard Society received funds for a new initiative.
Key recipients include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and others, with $78,000 in additional donor-directed gifts also distributed.
