The UK’s Bradford Pennine Gateway NNR, a newly protected West Yorkshire landscape, is named a 2026 world wonder for conservation and beauty.
The Bradford Pennine Gateway National Nature Reserve, a 3,148-acre protected area in West Yorkshire inspired by the Brontë sisters’ landscapes, has been named one of the world’s seven wonders to visit in 2026 by Condé Nast Traveller.
Established in May 2025 under King Charles III’s initiative to create 25 new national reserves, it spans eight connected sites including Ilkley Moor and Penistone Country Park, safeguarding 90% priority habitats like peat bogs and heathland.
Nearly half the area is newly protected, with 738 hectares designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest, offering vital refuge for endangered species such as curlews and golden plovers.
As the only UK site on the list, it joins global destinations like the Faroe Islands and El Salvador’s El Imposible National Park, recognized for its conservation value and accessible natural beauty.
