Swiss court releases bar owner Jacques Moretti on bail after New Year’s fire killed 40.
A Swiss court has released Jacques Moretti, co-owner of Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, on a 200,000 Swiss franc bail after his arrest in connection with a New Year’s fire that killed 40 people and injured over 100.
He was released under conditions including staying in Switzerland, surrendering his passport, and reporting daily to police.
Moretti and his wife Jessica are under investigation for negligent homicide and causing a fire by negligence.
Authorities believe the blaze started when candles ignited flammable ceiling soundproofing, and the bar had not had a fire inspection since 2019.
