Oscar Eduardo Ortega Anguiano, 44, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for re-entering the U.S. illegally after being deported twice, following a 2021 DUI crash in Seal Beach that killed two people.
The Nov. 13, 2021, collision on the 405 Freeway’s Seal Beach off-ramp caused a fire that claimed the lives of Anya Varfolomeev and her friend Nikolay Osokin.
Ortega Anguiano, who previously served 334 days of a 10-year state sentence for the same crash, pleaded guilty in October 2025 to illegal re-entry.
U.S. District Judge John Holcomb imposed the 46-month term, at the low end of the recommended 46- to 57-month range.
The victims’ father urged maximum punishment, citing ongoing grief.
Ortega Anguiano apologized, said he returned to care for his children, and waived his right to appeal, ensuring deportation and a ban on re-entry.
