NTSB investigates Waymo robotaxis after 24 Austin incidents where they failed to yield to school buses.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into Waymo robotaxis after 24 incidents in Austin, Texas, where self-driving vehicles allegedly failed to yield to school buses with flashing lights and extended stop arms.
The Austin Independent School District reported the violations, which occurred while students were boarding or exiting, and has requested Waymo halt operations during school hours.
Although Waymo implemented a software update in November and claims its system outperforms human drivers, violations continue.
The NTSB, which may issue a preliminary report within 30 days, will examine the incidents as part of a 12- to 24-month probe, following a related NHTSA investigation.
No collisions were reported.
