A New York judge blocked DoorDash and Uber’s bid to stop NYC’s tip-mandate law, set to take effect Jan. 26.
A federal judge in New York has denied DoorDash and Uber’s request to block New York City’s new laws requiring food delivery apps to offer a tip option and suggest a minimum 10% tip before checkout.
Judge George Daniels ruled the laws do not violate the companies’ free speech rights and would not serve the public interest to block them, noting past platform designs likely cost delivery workers $554 million in lost tips.
The laws, aimed at improving transparency and worker pay, take effect January 26.
DoorDash expressed disappointment, citing rising prices and tipping fatigue, while Uber did not comment.
