New Leaf Energy is proposing a 247-megawatt solar farm on 1,600 acres north of Jamestown, North Dakota, which could power 50,000 homes annually.
The $370 million project, set to connect to Otter Tail Power Co.’s grid, would create 200–300 construction jobs and maintain five to six full-time positions, with construction planned for summer 2028 to 2029.
It would lease land for 25–30 years, pay $23.4 million in taxes over three decades, and double Fried Township’s budget while using 7% of its land.
Setbacks, native grasses, tree screening, and a hydrology study are part of the plan.
Approval from the North Dakota Public Service Commission and a township conditional use permit are required.
