A man was charged after allegedly attacking a neighbor in a road rage incident that caused serious injuries.
Matthew John Ahlberg, 42, of Byron, has been charged with felony third-degree and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault in connection with a November 2024 road rage incident in the Somerby neighborhood.
According to a criminal complaint, Ahlberg followed the victim, a neighbor, in a pickup truck, made a gesture, slammed on his brakes, and after both vehicles stopped, grabbed the victim by the sweatshirt and slammed him into the front of his truck, causing a concussion, whiplash, and lasting cognitive and vision issues.
The victim, treated in the ER and later diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and brain injury, reported ongoing symptoms including headaches and difficulty reading a year later.
Investigators found a clean spot on the victim’s truck consistent with impact.
Ahlberg claimed he acted due to perceived reckless driving.
He was charged by summons in January 2026 and is scheduled for his first court appearance later in the year.
