A jury in Limerick Circuit Criminal Court has adjourned deliberations in the trial of retired superintendent Eamon O’Neill and four serving gardaí accused of unlawfully interfering with traffic summonses.
The case, which lasted eight weeks, involves 39 charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, with allegations that the defendants used personal connections to dismiss citations for 26 motorists between 2017 and 2019.
Prosecutors argued the actions were improper favoritism, while defense lawyers claimed the conduct was routine and lacked personal gain.
The jury, which includes eight men and four women, will resume deliberations after receiving judge’s instructions.
