Iran thanked India and Pakistan for opposing a UN resolution on its human rights abuses during 2025 protests.

Iran's ambassador to India thanked New Delhi for opposing a UNHRC resolution calling for more scrutiny of Iran's human rights situation, describing India's vote as a principled stand for justice and sovereignty. India joined a small group of countries voting against the resolution, which passed with 25 votes in favor, seven against, and 14 abstentions. The resolution called for an investigation into human rights violations during nationwide protests over economic grievances that began in December 2025. Iran reported 3,117 deaths during the unrest, but independent sources reported higher numbers. Pakistan also opposed the resolution, while Iran praised its support.
