Indian forces killed Jaish commander Usman in Jammu and Kashmir during a raid targeting hostages.
On January 23, 2026, Indian security forces killed Usman, alias Abu Maviya, a top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander from Pakistan, in a joint operation in Parhetar village, Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF carried out the operation after receiving intelligence that Usman, who has been linked to six attacks since 2024, had taken civilians hostage.
Security personnel evacuated hostages and engaged in a fierce gunfight, which ended in his death after he opened fire.
An M4 rifle and three hideouts were found.
Search operations continue in the surrounding forests to find two associates.
The incident is part of stepped-up counterterrorism efforts ahead of Republic Day.
