India approves ₹1 lakh-crore high-speed rail from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur, cutting travel time to 3.25 hours.
The central government has approved a ₹1 lakh-crore high-speed rail project between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, bypassing Kerala's Silver Line.
The 430-kilometer line, led by DMRC and E. Sreedharan as chief consultant, will have 22 stations, operate at speeds of up to 200 kmph, and reduce travel time to about 3 hours 15 minutes.
It will primarily use elevated tracks and tunnels to minimize land acquisition, with land returned to owners after construction.
The state will contribute 30%, construction will begin following a nine-month Detailed Project Report, and completion is expected in five years.
