India allocates 30 GHz spectrum for V2V tech to improve road safety via direct vehicle alerts.
India has allocated 30 GHz of radio spectrum for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems to enhance road safety by enabling real-time, direct vehicle alerts without internet or mobile networks.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the move during a meeting of the Members of Parliament Road Safety Committee, emphasizing coordinated efforts across districts involving local authorities.
V2V technology, integrated with ADAS, will help detect hidden hazards and is expected to cost ₹5,000–₹7,000 per vehicle.
A regulatory framework is under development.
The government also launched AI-based safety tools and a multilingual Road Safety Anthem, urging broader adoption.
Ongoing challenges include black spots, highway widening, trauma care access, and intergovernmental coordination.
