The Department of Housing and Urban Development has ordered all federally funded housing providers to verify tenant citizenship within 30 days after a joint audit with Homeland Security found nearly 200,000 tenants—including nearly 25,000 deceased individuals and about 6,000 ineligible non-citizens—may not qualify for housing assistance.
